Background: As a child, I loved animals, and always insisted that one day I would become a veterinarian. After taking an anatomy class in high school; however, I quickly realized two things: I can not handle blood and guts, and I don't like to see injured or sick animals. Not wanting to give up on my dream of working with animals, in college, I began exploring the field of zoology/animal behavior.
I worked as a zookeeper of small animals at the Greenville Wildlife Park, and I had the privilege of caring for many unusual animals, including: sloths, lemurs, snakes, and my favorite, three baby tiger cubs. Shortly into the summer, I began giving daily educational lectures about the animals to park guests. I quickly realized, that as much as I liked working with the animals, I loved sharing that excitement with children even more.
Throughout the rest of college, I pursued my interest in both animals and education. I worked at SeaWorld in Orlando teaching their summer camp program, and at Southwick's Zoo in Mendon, MA as an educational coordinator. I earned my Masters degree in education from Antioch University New England. I am excited to be going into my tenth year of teaching 5th grade at New Boston Central School.
